PROGRAM # 10120 12:00 PM PT
The Farm Bill: Final Days.
The US Congress has only three weeks left to reauthorize the massive agriculture and food spending package known as the farm bill. This year, the nation’s farming community is being challenged by climate change, the aftermath of the pandemic and inflation. As committees rush to draft the final language, many call for the bill to include plans to combat the climate crisis, help farmers and ranchers become more resilient and discourage the use of fossil fuels. Others push to confront a history of discrimination in farming and support for the safety of food and farm working communities.
Guests: Rep. Jim Costa, Democrat, U.S. House California District 21, Washington, DC; Gina Plata-Nino, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-SNAP Deputy Director, Food Research and Action Center, Washington, DC; Dr. Nezahualcóyotl Xiuhtecutli, Senior Grassroots Advocacy Coordinator, National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, Washington, DC.
