MONDAY, AUGUST 18
PROGRAM #10868 12:00 PM PT

The Alaska Summit.

This report and analysis covers the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the first since the U.S. president’s reelection, where a cease-fire between Russia and Ukraine was expected to be discussed but never made it to the agenda. What was actually discussed? What agreements were reached? And why was Alaska chosen as the venue?

Guests: José López Zamorano, Correspondent, Washington, DC; Abdiel Hernández Mendoza, Research Professor, Eurasia Studies Group, National Autonomous University of Mexico-UNAM, Mexico City, MX.

Deported Venezuelan Sues Trump. Neiyerver Adrián León Rengel, a Venezuelan migrant and licensed barber with legal work authorization, was deported by the U.S. and sent to a mega-prison in El Salvador, accused of belonging to the Tren de Aragua gang solely because of his tattoos. He is now seeking more than one million dollars in damages from the Trump administration. The plaintiff’s legal advocates share details of the lawsuit and examine the broader implications of this unprecedented case.

Guest: Juan Proaño, Executive Director, League of United Latin American Citizens-LULAC, Miami, FL.

Military Presence in Washington. National Guard troops have taken to the streets of Washington, D.C., under Trump’s orders. The decision to militarize the capital to combat crime has reignited debate over the role of the armed forces in policing civilians on U.S. soil. What does the Posse Comitatus Act say about this? What is the power of the National Guard? Can they use weapons and detain civilians? What are the hotpoints of the heated national political debate? Which cities might be next?

Guest: Kira Romero-Craft, Attorney, Brennan Center for Justice, Orlando, FL.
