Sin Fronteras. This is a program of “Sin Fronteras,” a special series to serve audiences in the US and Mexico with breaking news and analysis about major developments impacting Latinos in the US.

Drop in Remittances. Since Trump’s return to the White House, tens of thousands of Mexicans have been deported. The mass deportation policy has impacted families who relied on money sent from the United States. Mexico has reported the worst drop in remittances in years. What are the medium-term effects of this impact on the economy? What to expect from the coming months?
Guest: Dr. Manuel Orozco, Director, Migration, Remittances and Development Program, Inter-American Dialogue, Washington, DC.
Changes in Medi-Cal would significantly impact migrants in CA. Starting in 2026, tens of thousands of immigrants without legal status could be left out of the public health system in California due to a budget agreement that passed its first test in the local legislature, even though Governor Newsom agreed to backtrack on some of his proposed cuts to health programs. If the plan is approved, new undocumented applicants could see their access to Medi-Cal frozen, and those already enrolled could have to pay monthly premiums, which was not previously contemplated. What else is at stake in this agreement?
Guest: Mar Velez, Director of Policy, Latino Coalition for a Healthy California, Sacramento, CA.
The Effects of the Travel Ban. A new travel restriction limiting the entry of citizens from Cuba, Venezuela, and Haiti into the US, citing national security concerns, is disrupting the lives of migrant families. Additionally, DHS is sending notifications to hundreds of thousands of individuals covered by Temporary Protected Status, instructing them to leave the country immediately. How are those affected responding to this new policy? What alternatives are available for them?
Guest: Tamoa Calzadilla, Journalist, Leader of media research units in Venezuela and the USA, Palo Alto, CA.
Clean Energy Tax Credits Under Scrutiny. As part of the budget package, Senate Republicans in the US are moving to cut the tax credits that have fueled the growth of clean and renewable energy in recent years. Among the programs under attack are those supporting the construction of residential solar panels and electric vehicles. Who stands to gain and who will lose?
Guest: Javier Sierra, Spokesperson, Rewiring America, Arlington, VA.
