Lawmakers in the Mexican Congress are advancing a series of reforms to the General Water Law amid protests from growers. President Sheinbaum and congressional leaders argue that the changes are meant to regulate water concessions, end corruption, curb hoarding and overexploitation, and guarantee the human right to water. How significantly would the current water regime be transformed? Were Indigenous and agrarian communities consulted?
