Last week, a group of masked federal agents fired shots at a car carrying an immigrant businessman, his son, and his son-in-law. The attack occurred when the driver accelerated away from an immigration checkpoint after the officers refused to identify themselves and broke a car window. The incident sparked immediate outrage from neighbors and activists, who criticized ICE’s use of firearms and collaboration with local police, which is limited under California law. The affected family is preparing a lawsuit, according to Alejandro Maciel, who reports from San Bernardino, east of Los Angeles.
