20 Years Turning Farm Workers into Organic Farmers.
An organization announced as one of the nation’s longest-standing farm incubator programs chose National Soil Day to celebrate 20 years helping farmworkers become organic farmers. Leaders and farmer alumni talk about the impact of the program. How has this farm worker training program helped curb the decline in small family production? How is it helping diversify and democratize the rural areas? They also discuss techniques that put this program on the cutting edge of sustainable, climate resilient agriculture and national policies geared to support small organic farms in an industry controlled by ag business giants.
Guests: Patricia Carrillo, Executive Director, Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association-ALBA, Salinas, CA; Rigoberto Bucio, Owner-Operator, Bucio Organic Farms, Salinas, CA; Martin Aviña, President, Aviña Organic Farms, Aromas, CA.
