Women’s Day

MONDAY, MARCH 9

PROGRAM #11072 12:00 PM PT

Women’s Day.

Amid the commemorations of March 8, one of the most pressing concerns centers on the United States’ role in global gender-equity policy. The setbacks driven during Trump’s second administration are evident in decisions such as dismantling USAID programs that promoted sexual and reproductive health rights and distancing the U.S. from international bodies like UN Women. What explains this shift, and what does it mean in practice for women and girls both inside and outside the country today?

Kristi Noem Removed. Kristi Noem, who oversaw the administration’s mass deportation campaign, has been removed from her post as Secretary of Homeland Security. Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin is expected to be nominated as her replacement. The dismissal comes amid a funding impasse affecting the department and after Noem faced tough grilling in Congress over her responsibility in the deaths of two legal observers. What led to this decision? What does this personnel shift signal, and how might it affect the ongoing deportation operations?

How to Read the Texas Primaries. Texas voters turned out in record numbers for Tuesday’s early primaries, with reports of massive participation from Latino voters. The surge has raised concerns among current state government leaders. Are Republican fears of losing the Senate seat in November justified? How will the remaining battles be decided? What does this political barometer reveal in districts recently redrawn by Republicans? And how can the results in border counties with overwhelming Latino majorities be read?
