Wildfires Raging in the West. Thousands of firefighters continue battling record-setting wildfires in the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, California and other states. Some are preparing for “long-duration” fires. The season, particularly dangerous, has not yet peaked. What to do during evacuation alerts and mandatory orders? How to prevent wildfires from spreading? How is climate change affecting wildfires and vice versa?

Relief for Affected Homeowners. California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara ordered insurance protections for tens of thousands of policyholders affected by recent wildfire emergencies in Northern and Central California. The mandatory one-year moratorium issued by the commissioner prevents homeowners insurance cancellations and non-renewals. Lara explains the new orders.
