What Should Immigrants Know About California’s New Laws?

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13
PROGRAM #11297 11:00 AM PT
What Should Immigrants Know About California’s New Laws?
California has passed a new package of laws aimed at protecting residents — particularly immigrant communities — from federal immigration enforcement operations. The measures include a ban on electric-shock gloves, a tax on private detention facilities, and new rules on transparency, public records, and civil rights. When and how will these laws take effect? What should Californians know about each one? How far can the state go in pushing back against federal immigration policy? And what will change for detainees, families, and communities affected by immigration enforcement? This program includes a report on the recent ICE raids in Fresno and other areas of the Central Valley.
Guests: Assemblymember David Alvarez (D-San Diego), California State Assembly, Sacramento, CA; Diana Díaz Madera, Clinical Social Worker and Public Health Practitioner, Founder of Corazón Norte, Los Angeles, CA; Councilmember Miguel Arias (District 3), City of Fresno, Fresno, CA.
