“We Hold These Truths” Part 1. 

As the nation commemorates the US 250th, we revisit the meaning of the words in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” Broadcasting live from the Smithsonian Folklife Festival at the National Mall, thought leaders reflect on the enduring relevance of the fundamental rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They are also invited to share “truths” that are particular to the Latino community, about their connection to the land in the US, their historical place in the country, their ties to the social and cultural fabric of the nation, and their political and economic contributions.
