Urgent Aid for Colombia.

Following the earthquake that shook western Colombia, the death toll continues to climb as rescue crews race against the clock. Emergency aid is flowing very slowly, hampered by breakdowns in the rapid-response system and by ideological restrictions on international assistance imposed by the new De la Espriella government. Amid the official foot-dragging, independent organizations and ordinary citizens are stepping up to respond to the emergency. What is the current toll of the disaster? How is aid being channeled? What are the most urgent needs? How can people abroad help?

Texas: Hinojosa v. Abbott in a Dead Heat. The gap in the race for Texas governor has narrowed. According to the latest polls, Republican Governor Greg Abbott and Democratic state legislator Gina Hinojosa are in a virtual tie. Who are the candidates? What are their plans on the cost of living, health care, education, immigration, and data centers? Democratic candidate Gina Hinojosa confirmed her participation in the program.

Deportation Flights to Haiti. Even as Haiti endures a humanitarian crisis marked by hunger, insecurity, and mass displacement, the Trump administration ended TPS for Haitians. Dotie Joseph, a Florida state legislator from the state with the largest Haitian population, shares her concerns and her hopes. A lawyer by profession and a Democrat, Joseph is running in this week’s primary, seeking to become the state’s first Black, first Haitian and first woman governor.
