MONDAY, JANUARY 27

PROGRAM #10666 12:00 PM PT

Trump’s Orders Impact on Healthcare.

In a major policy shift, Trump approved arrests near “sensitive locations” like hospitals, schools and churches. How will this change impact access of immigrant families to essential services? What’s the advice for hospital staff and school leaders? Also, Trump ordered the US to withdraw from the World Health Organization. How would this plan impact public health?

Guest: Dr. Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO, National Alliance for Hispanic Health, Washington, DC.

Hospitals on Immigration Orders. In response to Trump’s ending “sensitive location” policy on hospitals, California is advising health care providers not to put patients’ immigration status on bills and medical records, and Massachusetts hospitals and clinics are posting signs about privacy rights in emergency and waiting rooms. In contrast, Florida and Texas are requiring health care facilities to ask about patients’ immigration status. A journalist has a report.

Guest: Vanessa G. Sanchez, Correspondent, KFF Health News, Sacramento, CA.

Immigrants Wary of Health Care Benefits. California has reported health gains for undocumented residents after the expansion of Medi-Cal. But the election of Donald Trump to a second term has brought new fears among mixed-status families and immigrant families with children about signing up for safety net benefits because of green card concerns. Also, what will happen to plans to allow enrollment in ACA coverage by Dreamers?

Guest: Carlos Alarcon, Health & Public Benefits Policy Analyst, California Immigrant Policy Center-CIPC, Los Angeles, CA.
