THURSDAY, AUGUST 7
PROGRAM #10859 11:00 AM PT

Tribute to El Flaco (Program Repeat).

A conversation as a posthumous tribute with accordion maestro Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez, who passed away a few days ago at the age of 86. For seven decades, Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez performed traditional Tejano melodies and, performing with legends such as Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, brought Mexican border music to a wider audience of rock and country lovers around the world. Flaco’s father and grandfather are recognized as pioneers of conjunto music. Flaco was awarded the NEA National Heritage Fellowship, the nation’s highest honor for folk and traditional arts, and the 2015 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, the music industry’s highest honor. This archival program was originally aired on June 10, 2015.

Guest: Leonardo “Flaco” Jiménez, Master of the Texan Accordion, San Antonio, TX.
