PROGRAM #10886 12:00 PM PT

The Sumud Flotilla Heads for Gaza.

A flotilla of ships set sail from Barcelona to Gaza carrying humanitarian aid and activists in a historic attempt to break Israel’s naval blockade of the region. A Mexican journalist who joined the group of activists on this journey recounts how the flotilla was sent off in Barcelona and what conditions to expect upon arrival in Palestinian territory. He also describes the impressive moment of boarding, as well as the outrage and hope of the people gathered there and in distant locations.

Guests: Ernesto Ledesma, Journalist and Director, Rompeviento TV, former Coordinator of the Center for Political Analysis and Social and Economic Research, Mexico City, MX today on the high seas from the Mediterranean Sea; Chelis Lopez, Reporter and Program co-Host, San Francisco, CA; excerpts from recent statements by Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

Trump vs. the Federal Reserve. President Trump has launched an unprecedented effort to assert control over the Federal Reserve, the central bank responsible for U.S. monetary policy. Frustrated by the Fed’s refusal to cut interest rates, Trump has accused it of stalling the economy and ordered the dismissal of a high-ranking board member, who insists the president has neither cause nor legal authority. Can the president bend the central bank to his will? What would be the political and economic consequences of this power struggle? What’s at stake?

Guest: Michael Negron, Senior Fellow for Economic Opportunity, Center for American Progress, Washington, DC.

Redrawing the Political Map. Donald Trump has directed Texas to redraw its congressional map to add five new Republican seats, and several other GOP-led states are preparing to follow suit. With control of Congress hanging in the balance, California Democrats responded in kind with a new map of their own, designed to dilute the Republican vote in five districts. What do the latest maps in Texas and California look like? What’s the next move in this high-stakes battle for control of Congress and Trump’s broader government agenda?

Guest: Dr. Ivy AM Cargile, Associate Professor of Political Science, California State University at Bakersfield, CA.
