The Sirens of Natividad

MONDAY, JANUARY 12
PROGRAM #11016 12:00 PM PT
The Sirens of Natividad.
A group of women on a remote island off the Baja California peninsula—who once devoted themselves to traditional homemaking roles—trained as scuba divers in a field long reserved for men. Today, they stand out within their fishing cooperative for their expertise in diving and in monitoring abalone and other endangered species. Working alongside renowned biologists to protect marine reserves, these citizen scientists are internationally recognized as the Sirens of Natividad. In this episode, part of the series Cuando se seca el arroyo, they tell their story.
