Environmental justice organizations are speaking out about exposure to air pollution, extreme heat, toxic substances and other environmental problems that threaten the health of mothers and their babies.

As the month of May commemorates Mother’s Day, Liz Hurtado, National Field Manager for Mamás, lays out the major dangers facing women and children in communities of color, Black and Latino communities amid climate change, including more intense heat waves recently.

But in states where there are more Latinos, other natural phenomena affecting our communities are reported.

The structural racism that exists, the lack of access to medical attention translates into premature births and high maternal mortality, in this sense, Liz Hurtado, National Field Manager of Mamás comments that moms may be suffering in extreme weather and many times they don’t know it.

Liz Hurtado, National Manager of Campo de Mamás talks about a program they have started called Ecomadres to be able to inform about the risks of the climate crisis that they can do.

She emphasizes that mainly, that happens to Latina mothers.

She says that mothers have the power and we must be advocates for clean air. Let’s listen to Liz Hurtado, National Manager of Campo de Mamás.

She insists that moms can take action at home and make a big change.

Finally, Liz Hurtado, National Manager of Campo de Mamás, says that climate change is a risk for everyone and we must fight for climate justice.
