Taking the Pulse of Latino Voters

PROGRAM #11152 12:00 PM PT
Taking the Pulse of Latino Voters.
A new poll offers a detailed portrait of the Latino electorate in four key states, shedding light on how they feel about the economy, immigration, border policy, and their trust in institutions — and how ready they are to vote. The data challenge some of the most widely held assumptions about the Latino vote. How strong is the current interest in participating in the election? What issues will drive Latinos to the polls this electoral season? And what is happening in Arizona, California, Texas, and Florida, where Latino voters play a central role?
Opening the Door to More “Forever Chemicals” in Drinking Water. For the first time in its history, the EPA is proposing to eliminate federal drinking water protections against toxic substances known as “forever chemicals,” or PFAS — chemical compounds linked to cancer, immune system problems, harm to babies during pregnancy and other health risks. Tens of millions of residents in the United States are exposed to these contaminants. What do the new rules entail? Are they legal? What risks do they pose to public health? Why are they called forever chemicals? What is the scope of the measure, and why are advocates raising alarms? How can people protect themselves from contaminated water?
The President’s Big Deals. While people in the United States struggle with rising gas and grocery prices, and Trump speaks of a “prosperous” country, most voters say Trump is using his office for personal profit. The Office of Government Ethics revealed that President Trump carried out more than $200 million in securities transactions involving major companies, including Oracle, Meta, Bank of America, Microsoft and Goldman Sachs, in addition to tens of millions of dollars in stock trades. What are the ethical and legal implications of this? How widespread is the conflict of interest? What safeguards exist — and what is still missing — to monitor suspected corruption acts?
