Stress is intensified during celebrations to bid farewell to the year

Sometimes the season of gatherings to welcome the New Year becomes a stressful time, according to a new study, one in three Latinos say their stress is worse this time of year than it was last year.

Theresa Miskimen-Rivera, M.D., President-Elect, American Psychiatric Association, Chair and Medical Director, Department of Psychiatry, Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, NJ. She discusses how common stress manifests itself during New Year’s gatherings.

She also points out the factors that can produce stress among the population, especially among the Latino community.

Dr. Theresa Miskimen-Rivera, says that there are other factors such as alcohol consumption, she added that among Latinos they were concerned about political issues.

She stresses why it is relevant to recognize that there is something that causes us stress at this time or any other.

She says it is important that we inform ourselves on the subject of mental health.

Theresa Miskimen-Rivera, M.D., indicates that the American Psychiatric Association’s December stress survey reveals that Latinos have resources to reduce stress.

And also to deal in the best way with family dynamics that can cause discomfort.
