Congress attempts to block Trump’s military actions.
Federal lawmakers who deem Trump’s war in Venezuela illegal are urgently calling for an emergency vote to stop attacks on Venezuela and other countries in the region. Today, the Senate is voting on a war powers resolution that would prohibit any military action in or against Venezuela that is not approved by Congress. Separately, measures are being discussed to curb military actions against other neighboring nations.
Guests: U.S. Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ), Washington, DC; Gimena Sanchez, Director for the Andes, The Washington Office on Latin America – WOLA, Washington, DC.
ICE agent shoots and kills woman in Minnesota. An immigration agent shot and killed a motorist in Minneapolis, Minnesota, during a recent immigration raid in an incident that federal officials describe as an act of self-defense, but which the city’s mayor describes as “reckless” and unnecessary. The woman was identified as Renee Nicole Good, 37, who had three children. Who was Renee Nicole Good? How are local activist groups and the community at large responding to this event?
Guest: Francisco Segovia, Executive Director, Communities Organizing Latine Power and Action-COPAL, Minneapolis, MN.
New Laws for Schools in California. California is debuting laws this year that particularly impact Latino students, from laws requiring fewer cell phones and more gender-neutral bathrooms, to a law that protects students from ICE raids, another that supports children if their parents are detained or deported, and yet another that makes it easier to access higher education. An education journalist comments on this.
Guest: Zaidee Stavely, Immigration and Education Reporter, EdSource, Oakland, CA.
