THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4
PROGRAM #10888 12:00 PM PT

Sin Fronteras. This is a program of “Sin Fronteras,” a special series to serve audiences in the US and Mexico with breaking news and analysis about major developments impacting Latinos in the US.

Guests: Jose Lopez Zamorano, Correspondent, Washington, DC; Alejandro Maciel, Reporter, Los Angeles, CA; Jesús García, Reporter and Editor of Politics, Immigration and National Affairs, La Opinión and El Diario newspapers, New York, NY.

Requiem for Due Process?

After a long separation from his family caused by a wrongful deportation to El Salvador, Kilmar Abrego García was detained again and threatened with deportation to Uganda unless he pleaded guilty to federal charges. His case joins that of journalist Mario Guevara, still in custody despite being granted bond by an immigration judge. What lies ahead for these immigrants? Why are they being targeted? Why are court rulings being ignored? What is the future of due process? Who protects detainees?

Guest: Helena Olea, Deputy Director, Alianza Americas, Chicago, IL.

Tensions Rise Between the U.S. and Venezuela. The U.S. has deployed more warships and surveillance planes near Venezuela’s coast. The move coincides with a Trump directive classifying certain drug cartels as terrorist groups and labeling Venezuela a haven for cartels. President Maduro claims the maneuver aims to distract from U.S. scandals and internal problems, and has called for the mobilization of millions of militia members. Is this a real war threat? Are we heading toward a military escalation? What’s the regional impact? How are neighboring countries responding?

Guest: Laura Carlsen, Policy Analyst and Director, MIRA – Feminisms and Democracies, an independent center for international relations, Mexico City, MX.

Troops in More U.S. Cities? After deploying military forces in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., Donald Trump is now threatening to send troops into Chicago, Baltimore, and other major cities to “clean up urban crime.” What has been the impact on towns already under military presence? How many more cities will follow, and for how long? What’s the future of this legal and political battle?

Guest: Carmen M. Feliciano, Vice President of Policy and Advocacy, UnidosUS, Washington, DC.

ICE Raids in Hospitals. With the growing presence of federal agents in medical facilities and criminal charges filed against healthcare workers for allegedly interfering in an ICE raid, concerns in the health sector are mounting. There are fears over the enforcement of visitation protocols, patient privacy, and the safety of medical staff. What rights are protected inside a hospital? How should doctors and nurses respond to immigration enforcement within their facilities?

Guest: Ana Ibarra, Health Reporter, CalMatters, Los Angeles, CA.
