PROGRAM #10685 12:00 PM PT

Sin Fronteras. This is the second program of “Sin Fronteras,” a special edition to serve audiences in Mexico City and other Mexican state capitals with breaking news and analysis about major developments impacting Latinos in the US.

Guests: Jose Lopez Zamorano, Reporter, Washington, DC; Marco Vinicio Gonzalez, Reporter, New York, NY; Araceli Martinez, Reporter, Los Angeles, CA.

Oklahoma Schools: Show Me Your Papers? Parents in Oklahoma will be required to provide proof of their child’s US citizenship or legal immigration status when enrolling their children in the state’s public schools. The measure, approved by the State Board of Education, needs to be approved by the Legislature and the governor. What will the state do with the information?

Guests: Ray Mancera, National Vice President for the Southwest, League of United Latin American Citizens-LULAC, El Paso, TX.

Trump’s Immigration Blitz. In order to explore the extent of the changes President Trump is carrying out, two media outlets examined the wave of immigration executive actions signed on his first day. Some are revived policies from Trump’s first administration. Others are expansions of practices. Other immigration measures would expand the powers of the presidency. A reporter shares her findings.

Guest: Perla Trevizo, Reportera, ProPublica-Texas Tribune Investigative Initiative, Houston, TX.

First Deportees. While the Trump administration said it would target deportation operations on violent criminals, the first 8,000 Mexican deportees from the US did not have a criminal record. What’s rhetoric and what’s reality in the campaign to deport millions of immigrants?

Guest: David Donatti, Attorney, American Civil Liberties Union-ACLU of Texas, Houston, TX.

Private Prisons: Cashing In? Immigration enforcement agencies are asking Congress to pay billions of dollars to build new incarceration units to detain immigrants. How is the private prison industry profiting from Trump’s policies of deportation?

Guest: Amilcar Valencia, Executive Director, El Refigio, Atlanta, GA.
