PROGRAM #10790 12:00 PM PT

Sin Fronteras. This is a program of “Sin Fronteras,” a special series to serve audiences in the US and Mexico with breaking news and analysis about major developments impacting Latinos in the US.

Guests: Jorge Eduardo Garcia, Reporter, Boston, MA; Diana Montaño, Reporter, Miami, FL; Jose Lopez Zamorano, Reporter, Washington, DC.

Dreamer Arrested by Mistake: Will She Now Be Deported? A 19-year-old student who arrived in the U.S. as a small child was mistakenly arrested during a routine traffic stop. Now, ICE is seeking to deport her from Georgia to Mexico. Her case highlights the distressing limbo and constant risks faced by Dreamers. What is this young woman’s story? What is the likely course of her legal case? What can other Dreamers and immigrants learn from her experience?

Guest: Charles Kuck, Attorney for Ximena Arias Cristobal, Atlanta, GA

Remittance Tax.In 2024, remittances sent from the United States to Mexico reached an all-time high. This economic flow has been vital for millions of Mexican migrant families. However, a new proposal by Republicans in the House of Representatives to impose a 5% tax on these transfers threatens that economy. The Mexican Senate and the Mexican President rejected the initiative. What would be the consequences of such a tax on the U.S.-Mexico economy? What are the real chances of its implementation?

Guest: Dr. Gaspar Rivera-Salgado, Professor of Work, Labor and Social Justice in the US, Project Director and Labor Center Director, Center for Mexican Studies, University of California Los Angeles-UCLA, Los Angeles, CA.

Harvard vs. the White House. The confrontation between Harvard University and the Trump administration is escalating rapidly: the White House has announced it will revoke the university’s certification for its student and exchange visitor program and cancel federal contracts worth millions of dollars. Additionally, the Government said it would pause the scheduling of interviews for student visa applicants. What’s behind the clash between one of the world’s most prestigious universities and the current administration? Why is Trump targeting academia? What are the consequences for the international student community?

Guest: Steven Levitsky, Director, David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Harvard University. Cambridge, MA.

Pollution Hits Latino Communities Harder. A new report reveals an alarming reality: nearly half of the U.S. population lives in highly polluted areas, with millions breathing unhealthy air. But the impact is not equal. Latino communities are almost three times more likely to live in areas severely affected by pollution. These findings come at a time when federal environmental protections are under threat. How is the new push to dismantle environmental justice policies already affecting Latino communities? How are Latino-led organizations responding to the erosion of environmental safeguards?

Guest: Juan Roberto Madrid, Colorado Clean Transportation and Energy Policy Advocate, GreenLatinos, Gunnison, CO
