Sin Fronteras: Doctors from Mexico

By Radio Bilingüe
Published June 13, 2026

THURSDAY, JUNE 18
PROGRAM #11176 12:00 PM PT

Sin Fronteras. This is a program of “Sin Fronteras,” a special series that serves audiences in the US and Mexico with breaking news and analysis on major developments affecting Latinos in the US.

Doctors from Mexico.

California is weighing a bill to recruit Mexican physicians as part of a series of recent measures to address the state’s growing health care access crisis. Under a provisional license and local supervision, these professionals would work in regions facing critical shortages, including the San Joaquin Valley, the Inland Empire, and Northern California. What impact is expected on communities? How will the doctors be integrated into local health systems? And what are the challenges for recruitment?

Venezuela: Was It All About the Oil? During the past year, the United States framed its actions against Venezuela and the bombing of vessels as a counter-narcotics campaign. But now that U.S. oil companies control the world’s largest oil reserves and sales are reaching billions of dollars, many are asking: Where is all that money going? Was the military intervention and the overthrow of Maduro really all about oil?

Juneteenth and the Solidarity Between Mexicans and Black Americans. This June 19th, Juneteenth marks the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to declare the emancipation of the last enslaved people. Decades earlier, thousands of enslaved African Americans had fled the United States with the help of Mexican abolitionists and Indigenous groups, following an “underground railroad” southward to Mexico, where they were free. In Mexico, residents and authorities took up arms to repel slave hunters. Today, as Mexican workers face the threat of ICE raids, Black civil rights activists are drawing on this shared history of solidarity to rally support for Mexican and Latino immigrants living under the threat of persecution and deportation.
