Supreme Court Ruling on Racial Profiling in Immigration Raids Challenged – The conservative majority of the Supreme Court’s decision to temporarily allow indiscriminate arrests based on people’s physical appearance or accent has sparked a wave of national outrage. Officials, lawmakers, and leaders of independent groups denounced the ruling as racist and vowed to continue the battle in district courts. José López Zamorano reports from Washington, D.C.
Mass Raid Destroys Dreams of Mexican Families in Southern Georgia – More than 470 workers were detained at a large automobile factory in what is believed to be the largest immigration raid under the Trump administration. Although most of those detained are of Korean origin, dozens of Mexicans were also taken into custody. Consulates and community organizations are now focusing on healing the economic, social, and emotional wounds of affected families, as Gerardo Guzmán reports from Atlanta.
Union Members Urge Yes Vote on Proposition 50 in California – Thousands of unionized workers have launched an intense campaign in favor of voting “yes” on Proposition 50 in California’s special election in November. The measure, promoted by Governor Newsom and the state’s Democratic majority, seeks to counteract Republican gerrymandering in Texas designed to give the GOP an advantage in next year’s Congressional elections. Alejandro Maciel spoke with some of the key players and brings us this report from Los Angeles.
