Schools on Alert. 

The two largest teachers’ unions in the U.S. have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for allowing immigration raids in and around school campuses. They argue that the fear of arrests has led to absenteeism, anxiety, and increased dropout rates, especially among immigrant students: parents arrested while dropping off children, alarmed teachers, and empty classrooms. What impact could this lawsuit have? How did the initiative begin? What specific incidents were considered as evidence? What role do educators play as criminalization reaches school grounds?

Greenhouse Gases: An Imminent Threat. The National Academy of Sciences has stated that there is more evidence than ever that greenhouse gases are harmful to human health. Despite this, President Trump is pushing to repeal policies that recognize carbon dioxide emissions as a danger to public health. If successful, the Environmental Protection Agency would no longer be able to limit emissions from vehicles or power plants. What does the NAS statement say? What are the key warnings? A New Era of Political Repression? Despite academic and judicial investigations, the Trump administration is blaming the left for the violence that led to the assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk and is now planning to target left-leaning opposition groups. Meanwhile, many people have been fired from their jobs for commenting on Kirk’s death, and Congress is considering bringing back the “Un-American Activities” Committee. What steps are being taken to shut out progressive opposition? Are dissenting voices being silenced?

UN Accuses Israel of Genocide in Gaza and Several Countries Recognize the Palestinian State. An independent UN investigation commission determined that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, while the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia announced their formal recognition of the State of Palestine, a move that the Palestinian government describes as an “important and necessary step toward achieving a just and lasting peace” for the Palestinian people.
