PROGRAM #10900 12:00 PM PT

Tensions escalate between the US and Venezuela.

Following the Trump administration’s assertion that US military forces have already attacked three ships allegedly transporting drugs from Venezuela, tensions in the region have escalated. The United States justifies its attacks on the grounds that they were a necessary escalation to stem the flow of drugs into its territory, while US lawmakers, both Democrats and Republicans, have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s justification and questioned the legality of these actions. What do these actions imply from the US and Venezuelan perspectives?

Guests: Jose Lopez Zamorano, Correspondent, Washington, DC; Araceli Martínez, Reporter, Los Angeles, CA; Mariana Pineda, Reporter, Houston, TX.

Latino Wallets Under Pressure. The rising cost of living is causing severe stress for many Latino families. In Colorado, a recent survey found that housing, healthcare, safety, and mental health are top concerns. What are the survey’s key findings? Are Colorado families’ concerns about affordability echoed in other parts of the country? What ideas or proposals do Latinos have to address this growing crisis?

Guest: Virginia Garcia Pivik, Spokesperson, The Colorado Health Foundation, Aurora, CO.

Universities serving minorities lose federal funding. The redistribution of funds proposed by the Trump administration, which will cut $350 million in grants, will have a major impact on educational institutions serving Latino youth and other minorities. Among the arguments for this decision is the claim that the allocation of these funds is discriminatory. How do educational institutions respond to this assertion? What reasons do these institutions have for supporting minorities? What’s worrisome about this policy?

Guest: Dr. David Mendez, Interim CEO, Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities-HACU, San Antonio, TX.
