Amid deep internal divisions, the Senate went into summer recess without the votes needed to pass the SAVE America Act, a priority for President Trump. The bill proposes requiring proof of identity and citizenship to exercise the right to vote in the United States. Activists welcomed the news with relief, noting that, if passed, it would have affected many eligible voters in Black and Latino communities in the November 3rd midterm elections.
