Remembering Alfredo Gutiérrez

By Radio Bilingüe
Published August 14, 2025

THURSDAY, AUGUST 14
PROGRAM #10866 11:00 AM PT

Remembering Alfredo Gutiérrez.

Alfredo Gutiérrez’s father, a US-born citizen, was deported in the 1930s from Arizona during a forced repatriation operation, under which more than one million Mexicans and Mexican Americans were rounded up and sent to Mexico. In his book, To Sin Against Hope, the veteran political and social leader draws a parallel between the anti-immigrant hysteria and rampant white supremacy rhetoric of that era, and the current times of mass raids and record number of deportations. This is the repeat of an archival program originally aired on March 9, 2016, as a tribute to the prominent social and political leader, who passed away at the age of 79 on July 29.

Guest: Alfredo Gutiérrez, Former Arizona State Senate Majority and Minority Leader, Author of “To Sin Against Hope: How America Has Failed Its Immigrants,” President, Maricopa Community Colleges, Community Activist, Phoenix, AZ.
