Reducing Guest Worker Wages: A Key Issue in USMCA Renegotiations

This summer, negotiations began to revise the free trade deal known as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The discussions include programs for Mexican guest workers—many of whom are Indigenous—who work primarily in the fields on U.S. farms each year. Scholars say that employers are pushing to reduce labor benefits in the negotiations. Araceli Martínez spoke with some of the people involved, and she joins us from Los Angeles.
