Protection for Immigrant Children. 

A federal court ordered oversight of compliance with the Flores Settlement Agreement, which sets minimum standards for the treatment, housing, and release of immigrant children in government custody. For more than a year, attorneys have documented violations of these guarantees, as well as inhumane conditions and prolonged detention in ICE and Border Patrol facilities. Who will carry out the oversight? What changes are expected? And what are the consequences of non-compliance with the Flores Agreement?

Taxing For-Profit Immigrant Jailers. In the wake of recent deaths in immigrant detention centers in California, and official reports of problems with medical care, drinking water, and use of force, state lawmakers and civil organizations are pushing for private companies that operate these prisons to pay a tax to fund immigration services.
