The California Traditional Arts Alliance and Radio Bilingüe have launched a call for entries for the Corridos contest.
So if you are a composer, or like to write, let your artist come out and participate in this Corridos contest that is part of the Sonidos de California project.

Leticia Soto, assistant director of the Alliance for California Traditional Arts explains that the corridos must be allusive to the San Joaquin Valley.

As she knows, the corrido is a genre from its origin transits between narrative and lyrical poetry, it goes from traditional and popular literature and above all tells stories of people or places.

Leticia Soto asks you to be encouraged to write, she comments that you don’t necessarily have to be a musician, since her own mother is a housewife but she likes to write.

He adds that participants of all ages can participate and can modify the lyrics or music or have an original piece.
Participants in the corrido contest will receive cash prizes.

In addition to these prizes, they will also be able to listen to their corrido on Radio Bilingüe.

Submissions will be judged by prominent cultural leaders, and finalists will be celebrated at a public concert in November. This contest provides a platform for participants to honor the corrido tradition while sharing personal and community stories.

The deadline for corrido submissions is October 7.

Corridos can be written in Spanish, English or other indigenous languages of Mexico, and submissions are accepted in a variety of formats, including audio or video.

Recordings can range from simple phone recordings to professionally edited files, but audio submissions must be in MP3 format.
