No More Public Resources for Family Separation. 

With billions of dollars flowing to ICE and deportation quotas on the rise, immigrant communities are paying the price — including a historic surge in deaths at the hands of federal agents. In response, California Assemblywoman Liz Ortega, backed by religious and community organizations, is pushing a bill to ban companies tied to detention and deportation from receiving state benefits. If passed, California would become the first state to prohibit public funds from financing family separation. A conversation with the bill’s author.
