New Retirement Savings Rules.
As part of the Omnibus bill, the Senate passed new retirement savings provisions – known as Secure 2.0 – that could make it easier to accumulate retirement savings — and make it less costly to withdraw them. The provisions include requiring employers to automatically enroll employees in 401(k) plans, allowing employer contributions for student loan payments, increasing the age for required minimum distributions and raising catch-up contribution limits for older workers.
Early Education in New Mexico. New Mexico voters last month overwhelmingly approved the ballot measure that would make the state the first in the country to guarantee a constitutional right to early childhood education. Will New Mexico be able to get the extra federal funding it needs for early childhood education and public schools?
Guest: Elected US Rep. Gabriel Vasquez, D-Las Cruces, NM (TBC).
Racism: A Public Health Crisis. U.S. Senators reintroduced a resolution to declare racism a public health crisis. Acknowledging the history of racism and discrimination within health care, the resolution seeks action to deal with the effects of systemic racism on the health and wellness of communities of color.
