More Billions for ICE

TUESDAY, JUNE 16
PROGRAM #11173 12:00 PM PT
More Billions for ICE.
House Republicans have passed a bill allocating an additional $70 billion to fund immigration enforcement agencies for the remainder of the current administration. How are the agencies expected to spend this enormous budget? What transparency and accountability safeguards are in place? How much will the deportation apparatus grow? And what can Latino communities expect?
Guest: Nancy Flores, Deputy Director, National Partnership for New Americans-NPNA, Milwaukee, WI.
Punishment in Adelanto. Following the start of the hunger strike at the Adelanto immigrant detention center, organizations are denouncing retaliation against strikers: solitary confinement, restricted communication with family members, threats of pepper spray, forced transfers, and other forms of abuse. What is happening inside Adelanto? Why the punishment? And what are the authorities saying?
Guest: Esmeralda Santos, Lead Organizer, Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, San Bernardino, CA.
Tennessee’s Deportation Agenda Challenged. Civil rights advocacy groups have filed a federal lawsuit against a new Tennessee law that criminalizes the entry or presence of undocumented immigrants in the state, and are asking that its enforcement be suspended. The new law is part of a sweeping immigration package aimed at turning Tennessee into a “national model for immigration law enforcement.”
Guest: Efrén Olivares, Vice President of Litigation and Legal, Strategy, National Immigration Law Center-NILC, McAllen, TX.
