Mobile Clinics Under Threat

TUESDAY, MARCH 24
PROGRAM #11088 12:00 PM PT
Mobile Clinics Under Threat.
Doctors and community organizations warn that access to services like mobile clinics—bringing health care directly to farm fields and rural areas of California’s Central Valley—could be at risk due to immigration enforcement measures that are instilling fear in communities. Although these clinics continue to reach rural areas, data show that fewer people are seeking care. Why the fear? Why do mobile clinics matter? How do Indigenous, immigrant, and farmworker communities benefit from these services? This is a special report produced with support from the Ethnic Media Collaborative and the USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism.
Guest: Daniela Rodriguez, Reporter, Radio Bilingüe, and UC Berkeley Fellow, Fresno, CA.
Who Protects Dreamers? The Department of Homeland Security acknowledged detaining more than 200 DACA recipients and deporting over 80, despite the program’s legal protections against removal. The case renews concerns about the fragility of protections for Dreamers. How did these deportations occur? What are lawmakers and advocates saying? What options remain for those detained or already deported?
Guest: Rosa Barrientos-Ferrer, Senior Policy Analyst for Immigration, Center for American Progress, Washington, DC.
Debunking Medicaid Claims. An analysis challenges the Department of Homeland Security’s claims about undocumented immigrants’ use of Medicaid. Fact-checking shows these statements misrepresent the data and may fuel public backlash against one of the country’s primary health coverage programs. What do the numbers actually show? What is driving these narratives?
Guest: Leonardo Cuello, Research Professor, McCourt School of Public Policy’s Center for Children and Families, Georgetown University, Washington, DC.
