Minneapolis: Calls to Defund ICE

TUESDAY, JANUARY 27
PROGRAM #11031 11:00 AM PT
Minneapolis: Calls to Defund ICE.
Days after the fatal shooting of nurse and legal observer Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, and amidst reports of changes in ICE leadership, a religious leader explains the climate of fear in which thousands of immigrant families in the city live, terrified of being detained and separated. He also describes the efforts to collect and distribute food and provide rental assistance to those living in isolation and confinement. Additionally, a congressman visiting the site where Pretti died reports on the daily fear on the streets and, in response to what he calls the “power of agents to kill with impunity,” calls on his congressional colleagues to cease all funding for ICE and Border Patrol. Finally, a community leader explains an open letter from hundreds of civil society organizations urging Congress to refuse to vote on the budget unless it includes restrictions on the conduct of ICE and Border Patrol.
Guests: Rep. Ro Khanna, D-California, Minneapolis, MN; Rev. Victor Martínez, Christian Pastor, Minneapolis, MN; Lorella Praeli, Co Chair, Community Change Action, New York, NY.
