Mexico: USMCA panel ruled against Mexico in the GM corn case

A USMCA panel ruled against Mexico in the GM corn case, claiming that Mexico’s ban is not based on science and undermines market access agreed in the USMCA. In response, Mexican President Sheinbaum highlighted corn’s cultural and biological heritage relevance, the risks it faces due to the transgenic varieties, and pushed for legislation to prohibit the growing of transgenic corn in the country. “Without corn, there is no country,” she said.
