Mexico: The traditional Oaxacan chilena music

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 26
PROGRAM #11001 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
The song and dance of the traditional Oaxacan chilena from southern Mexico accompany major celebrations of Mixtec migrant communities. During the holiday season, this program brings together music and interviews with chilenero musicians and participants from the Day of San Juan festivities celebrated by migrants from the Mixteca Alta in June 2024 in Arvin, California’s San Joaquin Valley. They reflect on music as a bond to their homeland, faith as a meeting point, and culture as a form of resistance and belonging in exile.
Guests: Chilena musicians and participants in the San Juan Day celebration: Celso Olea Garcia, Felix Hernandez, Adriana Lopez Sanchez, Eustaquio Zamora, Jesus Mateo, Rutilio Olivera, Pedro Ramirez, Juan Ramirez and Victoriano Salazar; Samuel Orozco, news director, Radio Bilingüe; Filemon Lopez, producer, La Hora Mixteca, Radio Bilingüe.
