The United Nations has just inscribed on the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity the theatrical ceremonies depicting the Passion of Christ in Iztapalapa, a community tradition that has been kept alive for nearly two centuries. On the main day of the performance, this report explores the impact of this religious tradition on community organization and the cultural identity of these neighborhoods in Mexico City.
