Mexico: The Fisherwomen of Oaxaca

FRIDAY, JUNE 26
PROGRAM #11184 12:00 PM PT
The Fisherwomen of Oaxaca.
The environmental crisis is threatening the livelihoods of the most remote fishing communities. Last year, Hurricane Erick devastated the mangroves in Oaxaca’s lagoons, putting the tichinda at risk. This mangrove mussel sustains the Indigenous and Afro fisherwomen of the Corralero-Alotengo lagoon. These women work to keep the ecosystem healthy and promote sustainable fishing. How are they holding on in the face of climate change? And what support are they receiving? This is a special program from the series Cuando se seca el arroyo, supported by the Walton Family Foundation.
