Mexico: Remittances to Mexico dropped in May

FRIDAY, JULY 11

Remittances to Mexico dropped in May, and President Claudia Sheinbaum blames the White House’s operations against immigrants, which have caused many emigres to stop working. Sheinbaum announced she will present a support plan for Mexican emigres whose remittances could be taxed with a 1% levy in the U.S. Additionally, Mexico’s Congress approved and sent to the federal executive the new law on reforms regarding the search for disappeared persons. In other news, raids against indigenous farmworkers continue unabated in California: this week they occurred in fields in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Political analysts and reporters examine these and other developments.
