Published August 07, 2026

FRIDAY, AUGUST 7
PROGRAM #112131 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

A national discussion forum is being held this week to launch work on the presidential initiative for the General Law to Prevent, Investigate, and Sanction the Crime of Femicide. The bill is expected to be approved by Congress in September, move to state legislatures, and go into effect on November 25—in time for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. An advocate discusses the bill’s content and its likely legislative path, while analysts comment on this and other news stories.

Guest: Ana Yeli Perez Garrido, Legal Adviser, National Citizens’ Observatory on Femicide, Mexico City, MX; excerpts from recent statements by Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo; Mexico’s Attorney General, Ernestina Godoy Ramos; the former US Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar; and Hugo Concha Cantú, a lawyer from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
