Will the Supreme Court Limit Birthright Citizenship? The Supreme Court heard President Trump’s lawsuit this week to limit the authority of judges who have prevented him from denying birthright citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants. During the first hearing, the justices were skeptical about its constitutionality, and one of the groups that filed the lawsuit demonstrated in the streets. José López Zamorano brings us the details from Washington, D.C.

Intense Debate Leads to Arrest of Newark’s African American Mayor – Ras Baraka, the African American mayor of Newark, the largest and most diverse city in New Jersey, was arrested while attempting to verify municipal permits for a private immigration detention center. He was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest, and was sued in federal court. The incident, which also involved three Democratic lawmakers, generated support from local groups but also sparked a political battle in Congress. Marco Vinicio González has the latest.

Defending the Right to Translation in the Age of “English Only” – For the first time in U.S. history, English has been declared the country’s official language. The change was made by presidential order and without congressional approval. Although government agencies may continue to offer services in other languages, it is no longer mandatory. The measure has raised concerns among organizations that assist immigrants and indigenous communities, who say other laws protect them from language discrimination. Alejandro Maciel reports from Los Angeles.
