Los Angeles Rises from the Ashes

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7
PROGRAM #11012 12:00 PM PT
Los Angeles Rises from the Ashes.
One year after catastrophic fires devastated large areas of Los Angeles, reporters and analysts examine the state of recovery and reconstruction efforts and reimagine the city. What assistance are victims receiving? How can reconstruction efforts be accelerated? How can the risks of homelessness be addressed? What support are businesses and workers receiving to help them get back on their feet? How is California preparing for future natural disasters? Where is the federal aid?
Guest: Araceli Martinez, Reporter, Los Angeles, CA.
End of Health Insurance Subsidies: What’s next? Congress ended the year without an agreement to prevent the expiration of Affordable Care Act subsidies, leaving millions of people facing a sharp increase in the cost of their health insurance. Without tax credits, monthly premiums could double or triple, hitting families already facing economic hardship. Although a bipartisan group managed to force a vote in January, there are no signs of change. Where do most of those affected live? Which states would feel the biggest blow? What are the first measures in place?
Guests: Paula Andalo, Ethnic Media Editor, KFF Health News, Silver Spring, MD; Esther Reyes, Movement Building Director, Protecting Immigrant Families-PIF, Austin, TX.
