After Attack, Trump Becomes Official Candidate with Anti-Immigrant Agenda – Five days after an attack that almost cost him his life, Donald Trump emerged triumphant at the Republican Convention in Milwaukee as his party’s official nominee for president, accompanied by his young running mate, JD Vance. Although there were some calls for unity, activists mobilized to denounce them as a pair of extremists who are promising to carry out the largest mass deportation in U.S. history and roll back civil rights protections. José López Zamorano has the details.

Hurricane Beryl Brings Heavy Criticism of Texas Power Company and Authorities – Although it was a Category 1 storm, Hurricane Beryl left more than two million Houston residents in the dark for several days. Torrential rains and fierce winds from the season’s first Atlantic hurricane uprooted trees and knocked down poles, making it difficult to restore power quickly. In Tijuana, Painting the Hope of Families Separated by Deportation – Every year, tens of thousands of people are deported from the United States. Some had been working for decades without documents, raising children or grandchildren, until deportation separated their families. Some risk unlawful re-entry, while others remain in border cities and wait for a legal option to return. Alejandro Maciel spoke with a deportee who, seeking solace in painting and with a paintbrush in hand, denounced family separation and described his longing to return to live with his wife and three children one day. Alejandro tells his story from the border in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
