Catastrophic Flooding in Texas Raises Serious Questions – An unexpected severe storm turned central Texas into a scene of devastation in the early hours of July 4. As of the close of this edition, more than 100 people were reported dead and dozens missing. Hundreds of rescue workers, including a group from Mexico, are assisting in the rescue efforts. Meanwhile, there are already voices criticizing the alleged failure of early warning systems and questioning whether federal cuts to weather and climate services played a role in the tragedy. Mental Health Issues Affect Families Displaced by the Eaton Fire – Six months after the devastating January fires in Los Angeles, which left thousands of structures damaged and some 30 people dead, thousands of residents, including many minors, are feeling the impact on their mental health. Alejandro Maciel visited a fair offering resources for those affected and shares the story of a displaced Latino family still trying to recover their property and their peace of mind.
