The victim’s family, along with civil and political rights organizations, is demanding an independent investigation. For its part, the Mexican government says it will move from a diplomatic note to taking legal action in defense of its citizens in the United States. Mexico Demands Explanations from the U.S. Regarding the Capture and Transfer of “El Mayo” Zambada – Nearly two years after Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada was transferred to the United States, the case is once again straining relations with Mexico. Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration maintains that the then-U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, lied about the operation that led to the alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel being transferred to the United States.
