Immigration Edition. Samaritans at the Arizona border are facing threats of arrest while Republican lawmakers advanced the “Arizona Invasion Act,” a bill similar to the embattled law in Texas that allows local and state police to arrest and expel suspected immigrants. How would this bill impact the daily lives of immigrants in Arizona? In other news, after a new law in Florida required hospitals to ask patients about their immigration status, worried women are skipping prenatal care and migrants are avoiding visits to the doctor. An immigration lawyer discusses these reports and shares recommendations to improve access to healthcare for vulnerable populations. Finally, the California Insurance Commissioner is urging DHS to end the existing contract with the GEO Group and close a detention center in California which has a history of human rights abuses of detained immigrants.
