TUESDAY, JANUARY 13

PROGRAM #11018 12:00 PM PT

ICE Violence in Minneapolis.

Public protests are growing in Minneapolis and around the nation after an ICE agent fatally shot a young mother during an immigration operation. With the deployment of 2,000 armed agents in the city, the Department of Homeland Security announced what it called “the largest immigration operation ever carried out.” Amid escalating social tensions, Governor Walz authorized the deployment of the National Guard. Analysts examine the details of the incident, the investigation, and its repercussions nationwide. On a related topic, an event was held recently in Fresno, California that brought together about a thousand local residents protesting with banners, flags, and music against the murder of legal observer Renee Nicole Good and demanding the withdrawal of ICE from occupied cities. This program includes reactions from some of the participants in that event.

Guests: Kimberly Boche, Supervising Attorney, The Advocates for Human Rights, Minneapolis, MN; Samuel Orozco, News Director, Radio Bilingüe; María Pacheco, Mayor, City of Kerman; Santos García, Former Mayor, City of Madera; Chris Schneider, Retired Attorney; Fresno, CA.

Abrego García Case in Question. A federal judge is holding hearings to determine whether Kilmar Abrego García is being subjected to a vindictive prosecution by federal authorities. Abrego García was deported to a questionable prison in El Salvador and then returned to the United States by court order. Now prosecutors will have to explain the basis for bringing charges against Abrego García.

Guest: René Valiente, Attorney and Director of Research, Cristosal, Guatemala City, Guatemala.
