“Gas or Whales” (Program Repeat)

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13
PROGRAM #10684 11:00 AM PT
Extra Edition: “Gas or Whales.” (Program Repeat).
A mega-project to build a “Sierra Madre” pipeline that will carry natural gas from Texas to Sonora, scheduled to begin this year, is announced as a major catalyst for the economy of the region. The long pipeline would connect with a liquefaction terminal in Puerto Libertad and large tankers would ship the gas to Asia. But environmental groups warn that the “Sahuaro” megaproject’s increased traffic of ships threatens to turn the Gulf of California into a death zone for whales and dolphins. They say it also threatens the ways of life and the economy of fishing and tourist communities in the region. This program was originally aired on February 5, 2025.
